Online Bingo Lingo and Etiquette.

Lingo
Because there are so many new players arriving in the world of online Bingo we have decided to publish a list of the common abbreviations used both in the Bingo chatrooms and on the site in general. Online Bingo chatrooms are one of the best features of game play, they allow an atmosphere similar to that of the Bingo hall, except that, thanks to auto daub, players can chat during games- in Bingo halls you only have the right to remain silent during game play. Even in the comfort of your living room you will be able to talk and have fun with scores of other players, when playing online bingo.

In Bingo there are a great number of abbreviations being used, here the list is limited to the most common abbreviations in use. These abbreviations are not limited to the realm of chat, but can also be found in emails, on message boards and other areas on the site.

AFK= away from keyboard

A/s = Age/sex

A/s/l= Age/sex/location

B4n= bye for now

Bbl=be back later

Blnt= Better luck next time

Brb=be right back

Btu=back to you

CH= chat host

CM=chat moderator/master

Gj= good job

Gl= good luck

Gla= good luck all

Gle= good luck everyone

Gn= good night

Gr8= great

Gtt= going to toilet

Hb=hurry back

Irl=in real life

Imo=in my opinion

Lmao= laugh my ass off

Lol=laugh out loud

Newbies= new players

Np= no problem

Otfl= on the floor laughing

Pjp= progressive jackpot

Pmsl=P**s myself laughing

Roomies= the other people chatting in the same chatroom as you

Rotfl=roll on the floor laughing

Ss= so sorry

Tc= take care

Ttfn= ta ta for now (bye)

Ty= thank-you

Wb=welcome back

Wtg=way to go (use when another player wins)

Yw/yvw= you're welcome/you're very welcome

1tg= when you only have one number to go for a win

2tg= when you have two numbers to go for a win

3tg= when you have three numbers left till a win

NB- in bingo lingo people usually start telling you when they only have three numbers left to go, bingo sites often only tell you when you are three numbers from a win too, although some will tell you how far you are even when you have 15 to go (15tg).

 

Etiquette
Most online Bingo players are very friendly and welcoming, talking to your fellow players will make your experience more enjoyable, but there are rules to follow and you should bare them in mind if you want to have a good time. Chat Moderator's (also known as CM's; people employed by the site to ensure chat is acceptable) can remove you from the chatrooms or if you are really out of line they will remove you from the site. Follow these rules and you should be fine.

Caps: normally it is only the CM that is allowed to use capital letters, so that their chat stands out against the other players. If you accidentally hit Caps lock you will be asked to change back to Lower Case, if you do not this will be taken as a sign of rudeness and you risk being removed form the chatroom. Caps use is generally considered the equivalent of shouting- except in the case of the CM's.

Coloured Text: on some sites you can choose what colour your text will appear in the chatrooms, occasionally the CM's will have a set colour and you should avoid setting your colour the same as theirs.

Complaining: try not to complain in the chatroom if you are losing, this is considered rude because it takes the excitement away from the players who are winning, this type of chat will often lead to you being ignored by your fellow roomies. The chatrooms are for fun, not for gloomy talk!

No Derogatory Comments: as with real life you should be sure not to offend people, no racism/sexism/ageism will be accepted and these kind of comments can be enough to have you removed completely from the site.
Arguing: you should not get involved, or start, arguments on the chatroom. People are there to enjoy themselves. If you do want to complain about something somebody else has said or done, then there are correct ways of doing this- e.g. through the CM's or live-help.

Vulgarity: in most chatrooms you are not allowed to swear or otherwise rude language, certain topics will not be tolerated and again you risk being removed from chat and possibly the site.

Emails & IM's: on most sites you are not allowed to mention private contact information to fellow roomies, this includes home and mobile phone numbers, email addresses and IM's. Click here for a reason why you should never share your contact details

Welcoming new players: if you are a long-standing member of a particular chatroom, you should try hard to make new players feel welcome. You also need to make old players feel welcome, an established behaviour is to always congratulate players for a win.

Soliciting: do not solicit other players for money, this is a sure way to get banned from any Bingo site.
