Once you have entered the casino, it is advised that you work out your basic bet (bankroll) that you are going to play:
The bankroll is an amount of money that you set aside at the beginning of your gambling session and the limit that you will not allow yourself to exceed. It is the best means in order to avoid falling into a pathological gaming pattern; once the money has been lost, this means that you should leave the casino; you should not allow yourself to go beyond your pre-defined bankroll.
In fact, it is up to you to estimate what your basic bets should be in regards to the amount of time that you wish to spend playing and in relation to what you can comfortably afford- remember that you should not play beyond your means.
In any case, avoid visiting a casino if you are financially struggling at that point in time (unemployed, on the dole, bankrupt...and wait until you are back on your feet).
Never depend on the casino to become rich:
The casino is quite good at allowing people the chance not to go beyond their bankroll, for example, you can choose your table in relation to how much money you have to play with; if you wish to play with between £50-£100, the tables with a minimum bet of £5 will be perfectly suitable for you. They will allow you to play at least ten times, and even if you are not a professional or are not following the Blackjack Basic Strategy, this will be sufficient to allow you to familiarise yourself with the game, and with playing in a real-life casino...even in the worst case scenario you will be playing for at least an hour if you have a bankroll of £100 (in estimation of the fact that you lose every hand).
In reality, to play for an entire evening (say 2-3 hours), £200 will more than suffice at a table of a £5 minimum bet, if you play prudently, some casinos may even provide tables where the minimum bet is lower, then you can play for even longer.
If you use a card counting system, you will often vary your bets in function of the advantage that you have over the house (or not), you will often need a larger bankroll for such a feat. But beware, the croupiers are trained to count cards too and they too will vary their play in relation to the game, they will also be on the look out for card counters so when you vary your bets do it with discretion.
