Casino History
Casino History Info
The history of the casinos began at different times throughout the world. It seems the casino didn't catch on everywhere at the same time so history of casino gambling is varied.
In the United States, casino gambling dates back to what is known as the "Bugsy" era. The Bugsy era began in the 1940's and Benjamin Bugsy Siegel was credited for starting the great casino gambling Las Vegas became recognized for at that time. In truth, it was a group of men who made Las Vegas what it is today. Men like Binion Horseshoe's original owner, Benny Binion can be credited with the growth Las Vegas was able to see early on.
Later men such as Bob Stupak, Ted and Jack Binion and Steve Wynn became regular names along with so many others. Las Vegas' casino history is as varied as the players who visit there each year.
In 1978, on the east coast, business men and land owners became excited over the gambling laws passed for the state of New Jersey allowing casinos in Atlantic City. Then, in the late 1980's casino gambling made history again when the tribal gaming casinos began to pop up throughout the United States on Indian Reservations. The casinos of the Indian Reservations were in areas throughout the country where casino gambling was needed and players swarmed these areas for gaming fun especially when larger gaming venues weren't close by to their homes.
Later, Harrah's Entertainment became interested in the casinos which were generating such profitable revenues and found a way to get in on the action. They became partners with the Indian owned casinos and took the gaming on reservations to a whole new level offering jobs and careers to thousands of people around the country.
Following the Indian Reservation gaming boom, riverboat gambling began to emerge. In Mississippi, Tunica became a gaming giant and brought prosperity to an economically poor state. Gaming in the state of Mississippi continues to thrive today. Naturally, other states have gotten into the riverboat gaming action as well and these states are benefiting from the casinos on their area rivers too.
Other areas of the world haven't been without gambling. In Monaco, gambling has been a large mainstay since 1861. Many people still think of Monaco when they discuss casino gambling because of the beautiful splendor found in the Moroccan casinos which truly define the industry.
Since 1960, gaming clubs in London have existed and while membership to these gambling establishments was required, it was fairly easy to obtain. In North America and South America, gambling is rampant and casinos have become some of the largest employers in the areas they serve. South Africa is introducing gorgeous casinos through their Sun City projects and players are anxious to see these casinos develop into huge opportunities for five-star entertainment in an area many people would love to visit.
Online casino gambling is now proving to be the wave of the future for casino gambling. Traditional games of Friday night poker have moved online to the virtual poker rooms and casinos are crowded with poker players, slot players and table game players in search of a good gamble.
Casino gambling has a very interesting history. Since its humble beginnings as a public hall for music and dancing, casinos now offer more than the music and dancing which now is primarily found in designated areas. However, the noise everyone gets excited about now defines casino gambling. It's the ching-chang of a slot machine paying out and the yelling and cheering at a craps table. Casino gambling is about winning and the opportunity to win is everywhere and on every continent. Gambling is here to stay and its very humble beginnings may have initiated a slow start but the growth of the casinos has proven casinos will be around indefinitely.
