Strategies for Poker: Texas Hold' EM (Holdem)

Texas Hold' EM is one of the most popular online gambling games. However, a fine line exists between a good hand in Texas hold' EM and a run of the mill hand. Three of a kind can be a very advantageous hand, while two pairs can generally be of expense to the player. Two pairs seem to be very good, but they are not worth the amount of money that players generally wager on them. There are many instances when a player will put a lot into a two pair hand, only to find themselves stung by another player. In Texas Hold’EM the two pair hand is the most commonly played bad hand.  

The basic strategy to take into account with Hold' EM is based on the point at which you pay attention to the style of each of your competitors. The relaxed players are easy to locate, they are the easiest to take advantage. Just bide your time until you have a powerful hand and let them bluff their way through the hand, they will lose. To carry of this strategy, you must be patient and observant. These relaxed players will surely adopt a different strategy when they have a good hand. Observing the various styles of these relaxed players will help you to identify strength of their hands. The challenge when you are vis-à-vis these players is to be the first at the table to take their money from them.  

The more up-tight players are in general more difficult to understand/read. Generally they will play very few hands; this will make it harder for you to understand/read their method of play. Your first challenge is simply to identify them. It is very easy to simply ignore opponents who participate in very few hands. To be competent at identifying these players, some one new to Texas Hold’EM will not be able to acquire this skill by watching the television or playing multiple tables. When these players participate in a hand, you can be sure that they have excellent cards. Do not be afraid of them; remember that you will need a very strong hand to beat them. 

These more serious/up-tight players often follow a model, but you will need time and experience in order to discover it. These players make decent wagers before the showdown and can often win the pot, without having to anything else, after the showdown is complete. Use the cards that are face up to wager at a good moment to win the pot, to the detriment of these serious players. A showdown involving many face-up cards is a bad moment to undertake this tactic, but if the face-up cards are of a low value, these serious players are usually bluffing with their pre-showdown hands. Remember, these players play in general only with the best hands and are not most of the time interested in putting a large amount in the pot if they do not have good cards. If you have the chance, try to triple the wager of a serious player after the showdown. You will come to realize that you will gain much more money than usually predicted, excepting situations when you do not have a good hand.
