Punters Turn to Table Tennis for Their Sports Betting Fix

Bookmakers in the UK are allowing punters to bet on table tennis matches. The latest move proves that you can bet on anything if you put your mind to it.

The move comes as bookmakers seek to find new products for sports betting enthusiasts in the UK. With the slowing down of sports such as football, rugby, and horseracing, gamblers have had limited opportunity to bet on sports in recent weeks.

You may remember from our recent article that sports betting can improve life skills, so fewer opportunities for sports betting isn’t a good thing. This is why the expansion of sports to bet on is positive for many. It’s good for the athletes and it’s good for the majority of gamblers.

Yet, some people have seen the slowdown in traditional sports betting as a blessing in disguise. They believe it will help to reduce the impact of gambling addiction. This is true, but it also punishes people who like a flutter but who can manage their gambling habit.

What’s Changed for Bookmakers?

But if you’ve been missing your sports betting options, the bookmakers have you covered. You can now wager on table tennis.

And that’s not all. There’s good news for sports that never got a look in before, as the bookmakers turn their attentions to previously overlooked sports. For instance, sports in emerging markets (e.g. African leagues) and more obscure sports (e.g. Table Tennis) are particularly popular. It will be interesting to see if the popularity of these new bets continues.

This weekend, sports betting is coming a little closer to home. Germany is seeing the return of its premier league football (Bundesliga). Without the crowds, the atmosphere might be less exciting but the betting should be every bit as fun as betting on our own Premier League. For those of you missing your horseracing, France is about to resume some of its races.

And we can expect to see positive changes for UK sports of all types too in the following weeks.

What Does the Future Hold for Sports Betting?

Today, bookmakers further announced they’re to begin reopening their high-street betting shops. This will happen during the second half of the year.

Of course, in these crazy times, there’s no guarantee that betting will return to normal. What we do know, is that we’ll find alternatives to keep those gambling juices flowing.

Improvise, adapt, overcome.
